Outfit Post: The Suit

I have wanted a suit for a long time, and now, I have finally got my hands on one! Every woman should own a classic trouser suit. It’s a wardrobe staple. Not to mention the fact is makes you feel all sophisticated and ready to take on the world (#girlpower). Suits are so versatile; they can be dressed up with a pair of heels and a blouse like I’ve done, or made casual with a pair of flats and a statement tee.

So, let’s talk about this particular suit. This elegant design from Zara is a tailored tuxedo style, with shiny lapels on the jacket, and shiny panels on the legs, waistband and pockets to create a muted contrast. The jacket has a single button fastening and some simple detailing in the form of buttons on the outer cuffs. The trousers are a cropped, straight fit, but when first tried, I actually found them to be quite snug and more like a skinny trouser, especially in the upper leg. Because of this I decided to go up a size – but don’t let this put you off, girls, sizes often vary in different shops! On this occasion, I paired the suit with a blouse from Topshop. It’s a silvery, grey colour with a quirky moth pattern. It also has the most dreamy sleeves, which fall in a flute shape and have added strands to tie into a bow at the elbow. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the blouse without the jacket on (booooo!), but see below for a pic of it on it’s own. The shoes are a pair I already owned from New Look. If you’re looking for a fashionable-yet-affordable pair of shoes, I always say head straight to New Look!

Overall, I love this suit! It’s super comfy while still remaining smart and on-trend. Suits can often be pricey, but they will last for years. They really are a good investment. You don’t even have to work in an office or have a job that requires you to dress smart – suits are a perfect alternative for a special occasion if you want to switch it up from the usual dress or skirt. I opted for black as I wanted it to be versatile and suitable as officewear, but bright coloured suits are also everywhere this season. If you’re feeling brave, try a red, pink or blue suit!
